| - Like many others I got the Groupon deal- 20 minute foot detox soak & 70 minute body massage. I have read most of the other reviews for Sam's Spa & here is my take. This is not a western foo foo glamour couple's retreat spa, Sam's is more of the kind of spa that hard working Asian people go to, to really get a hardcore muscle tension releasing rub down.
Just to let you know, according to most experts, the foot detox does next to nothing. I found it very relaxing & my rough nasty feet have never felt cleaner. I have had my share of massages in my life, the only better one that I have received was from a Brazillian woman at Massage Envy year's ago. I love a strong/hard/deep massage that gets rid of the pain & stiffness that I have from doing too much & being so out of shape. This time my pain came from painting my outside roofline trim. Hours balancing on a 24' ladder while painting was more than I am really in shape for. I booked my massage at 7pm on a Tuesday & there was only 1 other patron at that time. When it was time for the massage portion of the booking, Joyce asked me, how strong I wanted it while massaging with varying the amount of pressure she applied. While working on my back, she came across many deep knotted muscles. Like most massage therapists she first used her fingers, then the palms of her hands, then her elbows. She then asked me if I could handle more pressure & of course I could. She then, with very controlled pressure & movements used her knee to work out the kinks in my back. I know that sounds weird, but I got to tell you it works & the knee is less pointy/boney than the elbow & the leg has much more power than the arm. After that she used hot rocks & a medium/strong hand massage to complete the back portion of my massage. My main problem areas were my back, hands, neck & feet(I had foot cramps all day from the narrow ladder rungs). Without me having to tell her, she spent the most time on those problem areas. I wish I had gotten more time, so she could have worked more on my hamstrings & calves, but for the 70 minutes that I paid for, she used the time perfectly & professionally.
As far as the other negative reviews go, I don't know. A lot of Asian businesses, allow workers to talk to each other while they work. I was the only one in the main room at the time of my massage, but I could imagine that it would happen if it was busy. About the music level, they are located in a strip mall & have louder playing music from the businesses on either side of them, one of them is a Hookah Lounge. I think for their environment, their music was just right. About me being a fake account or person, nope, I am real & I do have other reviews, check them out.
The skinny on Sam's Spa: great place to go to for a real strong/deep massage, bad place to go to for a romantic couple's tickle-fest.
