  • Located a short drive from downtown Toronto, the Casa is one of the most popular tourist spots in town and is one of the features of the Toronto Citypass (worth the purchase if you plan on going to CN Tower and at least two of the Aquarium, Royal Ontario Museum, and Casa Loma - plus it lets you skip the line, which was formidable at the Casa during our visit). The spot is something of a mix estate/castle that is worth a visit in my book for how unique it is in a big city. It is a beautiful house with an amazing outdoor terrace, but here are some of the popular highlights: + Up the stairs, you will find two castle-esque towers. The Northern tower is the more popular, and the more worthwhile. It is outdoors, featuring spectacular views. It is also a little less of a climb, and those climbs are no joke. The only way up the towers is on a narrow spiral staircase. Crowds gather at the bottom waiting for people coming down. After a looong wait, you go up in a group. The up and the down really wears on the ol' quads. And I thought I was in good shape! + The other tower is the Scottish tower. It is the highest point you will find here, which might make it worth a trip up, but it is entirely indoors what appears like an old attic with small windows. If you're a completist, go for it, but I say it's worth skipping. + In the basement you will find old-school tunnels leading to a separate part of the property (apparently the city refused to close a road running between the estate and their horse stables, so they built underground passages to get between the buildings without having to brave the elements. That's wealth, folks. Anyway, the tunnels seem fairly interminable, but on the other end you will find the stables intact and a nice vintage car collection. Not bad, but there is no exit on that side of the property. There is a gate, but they literally lock you in. What's up with that? + They host private events. When we were there, they were setting up for a wedding as we departed. Pretty cool The place is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit, though as you can tell, bring yo walking boots.
