| - Stayed at the Palazzo again over 4th of July week on a comped stay. I stayed for 5 nights (4 nights were comped, one night I paid for.) It's become a tradition to come to Vegas every year for 4th of July weekend, but this year, as luck would have it, the 4th fell mid-week on Tuesday, so decided to do a Sunday thru Friday type of stay. My flight arrived in Vegas shortly after noon, and my Lyft driver had me at the hotel shortly thereafter.
Check-in and my room assignment was the only reason this review did not get a 5-star review. I understand late check-outs on a Sunday resulting in no available room inventory come Sunday afternoon for those of us arriving at the end of the weekend. I get it. What I do not get is why check me in beforehand, tell me you're going to text me with my room # once it's ready within an hour, and no text ever came. Had it not been for me actually calling them after 2-and-half hours, I'd likely still be waiting for my room assignment. Then, to add insult to injury, they gave me a room on the end of the 700 wing of the 40th floor. The 700 wing has a view of nothing but the Trump tower. Nothing else. The desirable wing is the 800 or if you're lucky enough, the 900 wing, even number, above 40th floor, so you can look beyond the Venetian and get a great view of the central and southern strip. I called to ask for a room change, only to be told that the room I had was actually strip view. I told them it wasn't the strip view I was used to, and they tried to tell me that it was a premium room, while I kept telling them there was nothing premium about the view to me. Long story short, they ended up re assigning me to a room in the 800 wing on a higher floor the day after. I get it was a comped stay, but still, try to do right by your customers, regardless of the situation. After all, this is the hospitality industry. Empathy, folks!
This hotel is undergoing a renovation, and if memory serves me correctly, the bell hop said they started at the top of the hotel, and currently down to the 30-something floor. So both the rooms I had were updated rooms (Pictures below.) I do appreciate that they have listened to what people have been preaching for years (namely, HIDE that rack that has candy and other snacks, because kids often grab them without knowing that it costs an arm and a leg.) Now they have hidden the rack inside the nice stand in the sunken living room, under the TV.
KODI+STREAMING!!!! If you are a techie like me, that loves having the opportunity to stream Kodi or playing videos off your device (like a laptop) and projecting it unto a TV, the new upgraded TV in the sunken living room moves around, which enables you to plug your device and watch it on the 47" HDTV in the living room. There are 3 available HDMI ports on the back of the TV. TIP: Use HDMI Port #2! (This port already has its own dedicated channel on your TV-- Channel 67, so there's no need to change input on the TV, just the channel!) I wouldn't try streaming on the TV over by the bed, because that one is mounted against the wall, so not much room to connect peripherals. (See the Pics below.)
Gone is that long remote to control the curtains in your room. Now, there are two wall mounted controls like light switches, to do this. One over by the stairs where you walk into the sunken living room, and the other right on the side of the bed. Both super convenient locations. Also the curtains have been changed, to something more sleeker looking.
Also, I love the newer furniture in the bedroom and living room. Gone is that worn out dark golden couch, and in its place is a nice smaller L-shaped couch that doubles as a sofa-bed. In the bedroom, form over function, as one of the 2 new night stands does not have any storage, and instead just has an open space where you'd expect to store clothes or your toys/lotions, etc. (Pics below) You still have a lot of drawer space in the armoire under the TV in the bedroom and in the 2nd night stand on the other side of the bed.
Don't quote me, but I do believe the carpeting is also new on these floors as I don't recall the design of the carpet before, until now.
In the desk, on the side, fast charging via USB now available. Also, the alarm clock on the night stand, has fast charging capabilities!!! Check the picture attached so you can see, just plug in your fast charging USB chord, and you're set! This goes for the fast charging USB plug in play feature on the desk as well!
The dining options here are plentiful, as always, and was happy to see Chef Lorena Garcia's "Chica" restaurant added to the line up here. Awesome Latin food with an added touch of Chef Garcia. Of course you can't go wrong with all the Happy Hour offerings throughout the V/P enclave, mostly stuck to the Happy Hour at the Grand Luxe, as the offerings of the food menu are extensive and dirt cheap on that HH Menu.
Will def stay here again for the Mayweather/McGregor fight next month!!!
