  • This shop on Augusta is probably the most transparent. honest/direct, and least condescending bike shop that I have been to. Over the years I have been in numerous times to buy accessories, or for unscheduled/emergency repairs. The service I have received in all cases was straight and quick. Even with a line-up with other bikes in queue to be looked at, I never waited more than an hour for a minor repair or wheel change. In a couple of instances when I also made a product purchase while getting a repair done, certain service charges were waived which equaled a discount from the initial repair quote given when I initially dropped my bike off. Pricing in general is on par with other bike shops. Selection is good as far as accessories go. One time I had to replace a Krytonite lock of mine with a new U-Lock and I didn't know what to buy and by what company. Staff was helpful when I was trying to determine the better of 2 particular locks with the same general price range that I had chosen from their display wall to compare with one another. I was given insight into the internal schematics of each lock by a staff member, and was described why the lock I ended up purchasing was the better/more durable of the two. The staff here are always friendly, atleast from my experiences. I can detect a serious asshole or fake smiley motherfucker immediately and I haven't ever seen a goof like that working here. Many other bike shops in the city have condescending snobby douches for employees. I keep returning to Bikes On Wheels on Augusta Ave because I have never experienced this kind of megalomaniac behind the counter or in the shop area at this store. Maybe previous reviewers who were critical had an off-day, I don't know, but other bike shops in the city have some serious assholes working at them. If you think you can get better service at another shop, try it out and take your bike to those shops and see how far you get. This shop is not a hipster shop and Kensington is not a hipster neighborhood. Kensington is an ungentrified shithole and borderline slum which is inhabited by working class people who cannot afford to live in other nearby properties. That said, Kensington may be the last true community in downtown Toronto. Trends come and go but Kensington is still Kensington. Who ever accused Kensington of being a hipster neighborhood must have been thinking of Queen Street West, or a dozen or two other stretches of downtown which have become a total fucking joke. You want to see a hipster epidemic, just go to places like that.
