  • + You can walk a block to the Fairmont business district, including coffee shops, restaurants, a bookstore, a grocery, and a wine bar. + The courtyard, with its fountain and flowers, is lovely. + Great historic architectural details in the common areas; unusual angles in the elevator. + Parking in the garage is included in the room rate. + Wifi is included in the room rate. - You can only make a reservation by phone, Monday through Friday during normal business hours. (Really? Are the retirees who live here also running the joint?) - Breakfast is included in the room rate and lasts from 6:30 to 10. Why is this a negative? Because I thought I'd be saving money by snagging some yogurt and a bagel at the hotel. Wrong. When we arrived at 9:30 (yes, 30 minutes before closing but still well within breakfast hours) there was A danish and A muffin on the buffet. The hot water carafe held some tepid water for my tea. Assuming the table just needed to be restocked, I went to the desk and let the attendant know that there really weren't many items left. He shrugged, told me there wasn't any food left, and went back to his reading. +No complimentary shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom. +Some people may find the decor and bathroom fixtures truly outdated, and not in a historic way. Many will not find the rooms attractive or the beds firm enough. I won't be staying here again. I've paid the same amount for well appointed historic hotels in much larger, more expensive cities.
