| - Let me start by saying I have only had one experience with waxing "down there". I paid my younger sister to do it for me for $20 with wax from Sally's. We did it at 3am and woke up half the neighborhood from my screams. Ever since, I have wanted to get it professionally done, but have been terrified. After reading many reviews and tips from other Yelpers, I chose the European Wax Center for my first ever (professional) Brazilian.
I was able to make the appointment for the same day that I called with no issues. However, traffic was a huge issue and a 20 minute drive turned into a 75 minute drive... They were very accommodating when I called 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment and they changed my time for me.
When I finally arrived, I was very pleased with the appearance of the place! It's stylish inside with great trendy decor! It felt very upscale. The receptionist was a doll and gave me 50% off for having a PA driver's license. After the wax, she gave me some upsale options and prices, comparing their promotional bundles to individual wax payments. Their deals are pretty good, but I didn't purchase one.
I waited with my sister (who was there for moral support, LOL!) until my name was called and I was greeted by my waxer, Katie. She took me back to the small waxing room, which is when I really started to get anxious. I examined the room as she cleaned off the table and put down some paper. It was clean and smelled like Clorox. I took this as a good, sanitary sign! She turned away from me to give me a little privacy and asked me to strip from the waist down and I obliged (NOTE: I don't understand why some ladies are so irked by this... You are literally spreading your legs for this person; why does it matter if they are in the room while you are taking your pants off?!?!) Katie had me lay on the table with the bottoms of my feet together and my knees out like a butterfly. She was very calming and engaged in small talk to try and help me relax. I'm not going to lie, it was painful, but not nearly as bad as the 3am experience... She had me get on all fours on the table, and did the backside. I was surprised at how comfortable I felt with her doing all of that. Before I knew it, we were done, and she was handing me her business card.
Another note: Many Yelpers complained of it being too cold in there, but I appreciated it! I was sweating from anxiety and moderate pain, the cold was not an issue for me!
My complaints are only minor, which is why they still get 4 stars:
There are still a few stray hairs that I had to pluck and some little bits of wax that stuck to my undies. Not as neat as I would have liked it, and the wax was very quick... A little too quick, I thought. This is good for a gal-on-the-go like me, but I will admit I was hoping for more of spa experience.
I would go give this place a try. The hard wax is perfect for "down under", the staff is courteous and professional, and you can't beat the price!
