  • Just spent the day taking the Map & Compass Navigation course as one the offerings of REI's ALL OUT 2017 As a hiker I am always embarassed that my sense of direction isn't better. This course demonstrated and gave us hands on opportunities to navigate a trek in the woods using only topography, then teaching compass skills to plot a course, determine current location, and use landmarks to "stay found". Jess was a great instructor, the class was small, and , at $60 was a great value for what I took away from it. And, of course, any day spent outdoors is amazing.
