| - The best hike in the Valley, easily! Gorgeous scenery, ample parking, and lots of trail options. You can hike up the mts to Toms Thumb, or take a more leisurely stroll at the base, whatever suits you best. The hike up is rather tough, but the trail is superbly well kept. Some loose rocks can make the descent a bit sketchy in spots, but nothing horrible (just watch your footing). The views are amazing from the Toms Thumb summit, with the surrounding boulders on Pinnacle Peak, etc, and Scottsdale way below to the West. You also get a great view of jets coming into Scottsdale Airport, if youre into plane spotting. There is no water at the trailhead, so plan accordingly. Also be careful to look at your trail maps closely. What looks like an easy hike can turn out to be strenuous and lengthy, so be careful. Oh, there is also a hidden "den" called "Ogre's Den" near the base of Toms Thumb. Its hard to describe how to find it, but its pretty neat, and hikers leave little trinkets in there, and the like.
