| - this is the closest mall to me so obviously the one i frequent the most. i'm not a huge fan of malls, nor slow useless shopping but when i need something i tend to find myself here. a break down of stores i visit:
walmart- yes i understand this is the only walmart close to downtown, therefore the one that most people visit so one would expect a chaotic environment. but jeez. i know walmart is famous for attracting interesting people and this one is no exception. often times you will encounter someone arguing (or having a full fledged fist fight as i've witnessed), people wearing severely inappropriate clothing, and general rudeness. for instance, getting run over by a shopping cart or someone elbowing you out of the way to get that $1 shampoo. Even better are the rush hour times when people seem to walk extremely slow and congest the isles with their shopping carts. there is a lot of patience required when you visit a walmart. i come here to stock up on cleaning supplies for the prices are great. you can get a bottle of windex for $3, compared to the $5.99 price tag other stores have. you can also get great deals on laundry detergent, shampoo, general health care (vitamins, etc) and cosco sized staples like spices. i do not recommend buying food from here. even though it may be cheap, it's generally never fresh. i recall purchasing a salad kit that was only a dollar less then regular and found out at home that the salad itself was wilted and the additional add-ons, expired. was it worth saving a dollar? no for i ended up losing $3 in the end. the line-ups here are crazy long, sometimes i take my merch to the makeup counter to get out of there faster. also this walmart seems to never have anything in stock, especially house hold items. items that they are often short on include air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, bed linens, regular sized towels, closet storage and dvds. the selection is horrible. i guess you cannot expect much from walmart to begin with, so do not go there expecting to find what you're looking for.
winners- this is an okay winners. often times it's picked through and disorganized but if you go there early in the week, early in the morning you will find something nice, in your size even! (gasp). the clearance section is horrible. everything is picked through to death and you are left with horrid mustard colored shag sweaters. once again, it's often crowded to the extreme and the lines are ridiculous. the worst part of this winners is their shoe selection. i can never find a pair of shoes that i like in my size. they are incredibly low on stock and you will rarely find anything advertised in their online magazine here. your better bet is to try the lawrence & bathurst location which has a lot more designer choices and a huge selection of purses & shoes.
aldo accessories- horrible selection, tiny one in fact. but i have gotten a lot of deals here on last item jewelry or broken (and repairable) pieces of jewelry sold for 30-50%. otherwise, just another kiosk with not much left to choose from.
h&m - this h&m is actually my favorite. the quality of h&m clothing isn't that great but i always manage to find something that surprisingly lasts me a long time. my last purchase here was an incredible silk & leather trimmed blazer that is light-weight and feels perfect. i managed to snatch the last one in my size for $49. i always find my size, never have a problem with the stock and enjoy their low prices for tshirts, tanks and work out gear. it can get crazy here on the weekend but that is expected. i just wish they had a lingerie section here as well, then this store would be complete.
dufferin mall foodcourt - sucks. regular junk food, not much healthy food to choose from and minimal seating (everyone hangs out here). it's like your high school cafeteria but with much older folk. not impressive by any means.
no frills - no frills is a zoo. but at least it's fairly organized so you know exactly where you are going and what you want. this is one of the larger locations so it's better if you get there early. it can get extremely crowded and you may encounter more then enough rude people in a rush trying to do their shopping without giving much thought to others around them. the fruits & vegetables here are mediocre quality. oftentimes they are soft and on the verge of decay. however, like walmart you can get great deals on packaged food and larger sized staples like bags of rice. this supermarket isn't bad to visit, you just have to go prepared. ie: early, with lots of patience, wearing a helmet (in cast someone pushes you over) and with pepperspray (for the creeps that hang out in the back loitering). all jokes aside, it's like every other supermarket, don't expect much.
