  • I have been going to this pub for years. Mainly due to its convenient location, excellent beer selection and decent food (for dining in or take out). This is a great place to bring a date or a group of people. The food is pub-style, so there are the usual burgers and fries, simple pasta dishes and then pub favourites like Shepherd's Pie, Fish n chips and chicken wings. What I would recommend ordering for food: chicken wings, poutine, fish n chips, idiot pizza or the flat iron steak. The flat iron steak dinner (comes with veggies and fries or sub out fries for salad, onion rings or my personal favourite, mashed potatoes) is only $13.95 and the steak is always delicious. If the tortellini with rose sauce is on special that day though, GET IT! In terms of beverages, your best bet is BEER. I mean, real beer. If you order a bottle of Blue or Coors when you are there, you will look like a moron. Get a Delerium, you will not regret this decision unless you have six of them in a row, this is because they are 8.5% and you will get drunk off of these if you aren't careful. Now in terms of the service at this pub. This is the most hit and miss restaurant/pub for service I have ever been to. Some days you will go in and have a great server that will let you sit by the window, they will check in on you regularly, (but not bothersome) and be pleasant and friendly. Then other times you will have servers like Mike (Sideshow Bob) or Curtis (breaking bad's Walter White, but without the bald head). All I can say about these gents is that they've been working for this pub and its neighbouring one, Sin & Redemption for years, and it shows. They are both very sarcastic and awkward and that often times comes across as very rude to customers. You just have to hope that either a) they aren't serving you that day or b) if they are, that you can't take them too seriously or you will have a miserable time there or c) just sit right up at the bar, you can eat and drink there and Mel is the nicest lady :) If you find the atmosphere of VIP to be too strange for your liking, then just get take-out if you must. But make sure you tip for take out! (I say this because they will always load up your take out containers with extra sauces and they still have to pack it all up nice for you. PS don't be cheap, they are still doing a service by presenting the food to you, am I right?)
