| - First time visiting Scottsdale and I was booked to stay at The aloft hotel. The hotel is located in a bustling evening and weekend entertainment hub with tons of bars and restaurants, so if you want to party (or pre party) and not have to venture to far this is an ideal place to stay.
By day the area is a fairly desolate business park, so for out of town-ers this may not be ideal if you'd like to have access to local fun - you're essentially land locked here with only cabs as your exit strategy.
The hotel itself is simplistic (read: no grand entrance) but modern. The staff at the front are really fantastic, but somehow eerily informed. I left for lunch on my own on the recco of one front desk staff and when I returned a different front desk person asked me how lunch was at that specific resto. So they talk but wow way to keep track. Very nice touch. The staff in general here are super friendly and very helpful.
My room was really great, again, minimalist but modern design. Great size too. My two complaints in this area were the mattress and the water pressure. The mattress was comfortable enough but I woke up each morning with terrible back pain, so I wonder if it just didn't jive with me. The water pressure in my room however while acceptable was not particularly what I would expect from a hotel and rinsing took extra time at each shower.
Amenities: the wxyz bar with its amazing roof top style patio was great, again, you're in a business park so the view from floor 2 isn't anything to write home about BUT the drinks were cheap (so I'm told) and the outdoor space was very cool! I also made use of the gym several mornings. It was a standard (read: small) hotel gym, but definitely had all the comforts and basic equipment you might be looking for - just in lesser numbers due to size of space. Free water and towels were much appreciated as the room seems to have low ventilation and it gets steamy in there (just look at the steam on the windows).
Overall, a great stay, any minor comfort issues mentioned were personal preference but I figured worth mentioning in the event the hotel might want to look into ways to improve in case others had similar issues.
