| - As an avid pool player, who has played at every poolhall in the city, I can say that this place is the one that I frequent 4-5 nights a week.
I believe that this business is the oldest in Calgary, and also has been in the same building since the 60's. (located beside Stavros Pub, just off Mcknight)
The owner, Lenny, is the friendliest in the city. He cares about his business and his customers. He isn't just one of those people that "works" there, but he also loves the game as well.
Look and Feel:
If you have ever seen the movie "Poolhall Junkies" then you know what I mean. It feels kind of like old Nick's pool hall that the group always play at.
Leather Pocket has the usual. (tv's, bar stools and tables), but the "old school" atmosphere really separates it from other places.
Tables:
2 - Bar Boxes
2 - Snooker Tables
An assortment of 4x8's
An assortment of 4.5x9's
All of the tables are perfectly level, sturdy, and 1" slate. They aren't sticky like the Hideout, and the felts are in great condition, compared to most places in the city.
Entertainment:
The main thing that stands out to me, is the Zymeta video jukebox sound system. Every song out there is available. Just navigate through the touchscreen, pick a song, or even a playlist, and you are good to go. If you have ever tried the rundown, overpriced, clunky system at Olympic Billiards, then you are in for a treat!
Food/Drinks:
In the southeast corner of the building, the bar is cheap, and well stocked. Chips, Chocolate bars, and pop are also available, as well as hamburgers and hotdogs.
Tournaments:
10 ball - Fridays
8 ball - Saturdays
9 ball - Sundays
Prices:
"The Sweet Deal"
$7 - per person....all the pool you want
Sunday - Thursday
4pm - close
The Friday and Saturday "Sweet Deal" is from 4pm - 8pm.
Billiards Supplies:
Not many people know, but Lenny is also able to order and sell different billiards supplies. Are you looking for a cue? McDermott? Predator? How about ball cleaner, or training balls? He can order pretty much anything, and sell it for cheaper.
He also has pool tables for sale as well.
Review:
This place is the best in the city.
Cheapest prices - $7 per person (that isn't per hour.....it's for the entire night!)
Cheapest drinks out of any of the pool halls
Friendliest staff
