| - I've had a few pedicures at Evelyn Charles Market Mall location now. I have not experienced any other services there, so am unable to comment on anything other than the pedicures.
The spa space is located on the second level; it's very large. They probably have at least 10 foot-tub-chairs, so if you are looking for a place for a ladies day out for a group, EC could easily accommodate that.
The pedicure ($85) includes paraffin and EC provides you with actual flip flops, not those disposable paper things. They also give you a mini-size bottle of the nail color you choose, should you need to touch up. I think these are a couple of nice bonuses that I've not experienced any another spa in Calgary. The pedicures themselves are well done. They always have done a nice job for me. With that said, I hate the nail polish they use. It takes upwards of an hour to dry. They don't try to speed the process along with drying fans or nail drying sprays. So you are stuck afterwards for at least an hour. The nail polish selection is dismal - they had 21 colors and nothing particularly seasonal or trendy. A lot of off-white actually. I didn't like any of the choices presented to me but obviously had to choose something. On my last visit they tried to upsell me to shellac nail polish, for an additional $30, which they claimed 'would last up to two weeks'. Sorry, I expect any old pedicure to last 2 weeks, so I'm certainly not going to pay an additional $30 for that.
The real problem I have with EC - Market Mall is the atmosphere. The reception people barely look at you. They certainly don't show you around or ask how your visit was. The spa area is a very large sunny space but it just doesn't have that nice tranquil relaxing feeling. The furnishings are modern black leather and chrome - very harsh, not cozy and comfortable at all. It's very never busy, so you feel like every word is echoed inside this giant room. I don't even recall ever hearing any spa music.
After shopping, I've popped in here so many times to ask if someone could give me a pedicure and they always say, no, they are booked. That's a shame, because you would think foot traffic in the mall would be welcomed and that they would be prepared for that. So overall, the pedicure service is just fine and competitively priced. I just don't like the facility much. I may go back if my regular spa is booked.
