| - It sure isn't what it used to be when they first opened up. In '86, I used to go to their first restaurant on E. VanBuren. Several years after I moved out of the area, I returned and noticed a difference. That was 20 years ago. Well, I thought I'd check out their Central Ave location. Walking in, we smelled methane gas from dried out floor drain traps. I ordered the wings and had to take them back after two bites. They were rubbery & flavorless, plus's, the check skin was silvery white which indicates that they were old & probably covered with slime when placed in the deep fryer. The catfish looked weird but tasted okay. The serving of Cole slaw looked liked it had been prepacked and was drowning in mayonnaise. We thought it looked old because it was so smashed down, but, their quantity was plentiful. The cowboy beans had good taste, but, were nothing like the ones they used to serve which contained plenty of green peppers and hot link slices. Now, very few green peppers, no onions, and they used hot dog Weiners sparingly. I asked to replace my wings with a pulled pork sandwich. Has & Dickey's beat Honey Bear's hands down. It had a cheap bun which was soggy and smashed down. They don't even have Coke nor Pepsi products. The restaurant business is a tough business, so that would explain their reduced quality. The server/cashier was the best thing about this place. He was GREAT!
