  • Dr. Alan Tauro was my latest miserable encounter at MMG (in this case, Ballantyne). After thinking my first few visits went well with him and that he truly cared about his patients, I did have to revisit the drugs he advised I take and upped my dosing on one I was taking and dealing with OK at 10 mg. (Paxil). BAD REACTION. I had every potential side effect from the med so I decided to slowly wean off of it. I sent him a message through their portal that I had done so and why. I assumed the message would go to one of his assistants, but apparently the Practice Manager, TRISTA LEONARD, reads all the messages before they are sent to the Physician's Assistant who discusses it with the doctor. Shortly thereafter in bed with the flu (sleeping) I only picked up the phone because I thought it was my husband calling. Instead it was a sweet young lady who sounded like an admin, that Dr. Tauro had her call me because I wasn't taking his advice, I should have stayed on my meds and he couldn't prescribe the .5 Xanax or 5.0 Ambien I requested, also through the portal "because they are controlled substances". I asked her if she knew what a "controlled substance was and was met with total silence". So I explained to her the difference between OTC and "Controlled". Figured I'd go to another doctor there (we live a few minutes away). Then I got a letter from them CLEARLY WRITTEN BY THE PRACTICE MANAGER that I was no longer welcome as a patient there because I wasn't taking his advice, showing respect, etc. etc. She put his name on it and had him sign it, but also had HER name on it, her position there and scribbled her name off to the side. Trisha Leonard had the poor girl call me to say "I was told to tell you you were no longer welcome. . .I asked, really! Anything else? And she shyly said yes, Dr. Tauro said "you should see a psychiatrist!" I replied, I'll go see one after he does and let's me know how it goes!". I got so upset I've had serious stomach problems to add to the flu, not to mention all the side effects of going off of Paxil, even though I did it slowly. This matter was handled terribly. And why would a supposedly good & caring doctor want a patient to stay on a med when it was affecting them so negatively?? DON'T GO HERE!!! UPDATE: I'm not the only one disgusted with MMG throughout Charlotte; just read in the Charlotte Observer that MANY doctor groups are leaving Atrium or have left MMG/Atrium to start their owns group practices. MMG is suing to break away from CHS/now Atrium. Doctors were (anonymously) quoted as saying they wanted to get back to "doctoring" and not be a part of what has become "Factory Medicine". And it all goes back to MMG's Corporate infrastructure (Atrium). I hope they lose all of their good doctors who are sick of being controlled by some "mastermind business machine"! Sally B.
