| - I am writing this review because I wish I had seen this before I moved there. Nice apartment inside but the landlord is a criminal and the worst landlord I have ever had in my life.
I made the mistake of just searching the apartment through the internet and I got some decent reviews but I implore anyone who it interested in living here to google the name of the landlord, Alan Pearlman. He has had lawsuits against him from stealing individual's security deposits for apartment problems that were in no fault of the tenant, he is accused of coming inside peoples apartments without permission and being caught on a webcam, and accused of being an overall rude and difficult landlord. Every student I have spoke to blacklisted this landlord and all of his apartments. I found this out after I had signed the lease and I have found the same things to be true.
First, before I moved in, two other students were moving out, they told me that he blamed them for the pipe busting in the winter time and were withholding their security deposit. By the way, the security deposit is over a grand per person.
Next, he has come into my apartment without permission on several occasions. When asked why he violated my privacy, he reasoned that it was an emergency and was entitled to do it. Furthermore, almost every time he has come into my apartment, emergency or not, it has been without notice which is against the law.
Alan Pearlman is extremely rude, I suggest, that if you are unlucky to live in his apartments, that you maintain strict email correspondence and CC or BCC yourself every time you respond to him for record keeping. If you have to call him, he can be very rude, often answering with a, "What do you want?" or "Why are you calling me?!"
Finally and I think the most important fact. He has threatened to steal my security deposit. I received an email from him stating that he came into my unit, again without permission, and found evidence (which he cannot prove) that I caused excessive water damage to other floors and he would take it from my deposit. A background of this story is necessary in order to explain the unfairness of this email. There has been water damage for months and I have asked him to repair it several times, he has not repaired anything. There is water damage in my apartment, I have asked him to check into this and he has not done anything yet. Now, he blames me for causing extensive water damage and denies receiving notice of my maintenance request. Unfortunately, I will have to spend precious time on suing him so that I may get my money back.
However, renters beware of Alan Pearlman and do not rent from him! The Wi-Fi is great but not that great!
