  • At one point, I would have given Qwest, now CenturyLink, 5 stars. I had a few issues with billing and they were always handled promptly and correctly, and two change of service addresses created no problems. This year, however, I have to change my opinion. My problem started when I decided to take advantage of a current Cox promotion. I called CenturyLink customer service to cancel my account. The account representative was very nice, and as, I would guess, part of customer retention asked if I knew if anyone who would be interested in having internet service only for one year at approximately 1/2 the current cost. I was told that my account would be cancelled and my balance at the time refunded. I talked with someone who was willing to accept the offer made. The account was set up at a new address, and with a new person responsible for the bill, and a new account number. After waiting a month to receive my refund, I called CenturyLink. They do not provide online chat with billing issues, so there is no documentation on what was said, but I was told to wait until the next billing cycle ended, and the refund should be issued then. When again I had not received my refund of my credit balance, I called again. This time I talked with someone who assured me he had authorized the refund, and gave me a confirmation number to refer to if the refund did not arrive promptly. Last week after several weeks had gone by with a still CenturyLink refund less mailbox, I called again. I was told that she could not access the date action had been taken, but her records indicated a refund had been issued, and she advised me to wait until this past Monday and then contact them again if it had not arrived. Well, here it is Wednesday and still no refund. I called billing/finance gain and this time the rep told me there would be no refund, that my account had not been closed, and although another person was responsible for the bill, my name was still on the account, and my credit had been applied to the bill. I was very irate at this and finally after several go-rounds, insisted on speaking with his supervisor. I was transferred to someone who identified himself as a manager. He did not seem to understand that there was no reason I should bear the consequences of their not properly closing my account as requested, and that they were not going to be issuing a refund. When I asked for his supervisor, I was told he was a non- customer contact manager. I was given the address of the headquarters in Colorado, and told to write to them. I asked for an email address, and was told the physical address was all that was available. I basically do not like Cox either, and after the promo was up, had planned on switching back to CL. Now for the amount of money that is less than two months service with CL, it would take an awful lot of convincing and incentives to consider going back to them. Their mistake on the paperwork, they should rectify it. Instead they have one very p.o'd ex customer, a negative review on Yelp, and possibly complaints to the corporation commissions in two states, all worth much more in negatives than my less than $50 refund. Think twice before you do business with them, get everything in writing, and be prepared for things to not go as you are told they will.
