| - Went today to seek out Toronto's best cupcakes.
I should preface this review by saying I love cupcakes and have pretty high standards. I really enjoy and miss the cupcakes from back home in Vancouver, although I haven't lived there for a while now. Anyways, I have been looking for a good cupcake place here.
We tried the Very Vanilla, Almond and the Bailey's Hot Chocolate. First, there are a lot of flavours, there were maybe 8 at the shop, maybe 20 in the booklet. It smelled delicious in the bakery. I was already more impressed than I have been at any other shop so far. It wasn't too fancy, like they didn't have to try too hard.
Now the cupcakes:
Very Vanilla: This had a surprising pudding or creme anglaise type middle! I didn't know there would be a soft centre. The cake itself was moist and very good. The icing was a little on the heavy side, although it was tasty buttercream.
Almond: This could have had more almond flavour. Again, there was a centre we weren't prepared for! This time it was some sort of berry. It was yummy, but the cupcake itself wasn't very almond-y. We were hoping for something more distinct, this was like a hint of almond in a vanilla cupcake batter. This was still my girl's fave though.
Bailey's Hot Chocolate: This was my favorite of the bunch. Liquid centre (again) but the cupcake was delicious. I don't usually like chocolate cake as much as vanilla, but it was moist and flavourful. The icing here was lighter and almost like a marshmallow topping. Mmmm. I liked it!
Did I find the best cupcakes in Toronto? Not sure, but they are very good. I will be back for more :)
