  • Between three and four stars meaning "OK" versus "I'm a fan". It all depends. Pros: independent small cinema with cosy atmosphere showing some other than generic BLOCKBUSTER films, apparently offer alcohol (but I don't drink it in there, so it may be an advantage to others), and SUPER BIG FANTASTIC FUN EVENT: Rocky Horror Picture Show Screenings (totally go, bring costume, rephrase: wear costume!, the coolest kids you never thought existed around here will be there and you will have SO MUCH FUN!) Antis: most shows are maybe not the big Blockbuster movies, but still NOT the interesting avant-garde films (Europe/Asia, yes, also occasionally from America, North/Central/South, all these places exist and produce interesting movies since a long time), anyways NOT HERE, which is very shame, instead the cosy choice that grandma and grampa want to see, and consequently the majority of the audience consists of an elderly predominantly "white" generation (not unlike in Stone Oven Bakery down the road in the morning), which want to see movies in which old people one more time fall in love, very careful sex included, but only implied and not shown (don't worry!), or go on a road trip on a sexy motorbike where they will die from a heart attack just when they made it to the Grand Canyon. It seems a bit like a club that came with the "Sound of Music"-bus tours or something like that. I have absolutely no problem with old or "white" people but I am neither, and I feel admittedly odd watching a movie in a mass of people where I am the only "other" one, so consequently I don't go, although the movie per se might be interesting as a soft entertainment for an evening out. A bit more diversity would be FANTASTIC, but I can see that it is hard to establish in this city, the kingdom of various ghettos that most stubbornly refuse to mingle. Also, these darling ladies and gentlemen, without that it seems to bother them, have the tendency to very loudly whisper well into opening credits, which has a truly creepy effect in a dark, small, enclosed room, and: they will laugh at any moment a cross-dresser or homosexual in drag appears. Maybe no harm is meant, some would call it "they are set in their ways", fine, but it does get old. I am brought up to have huge respect for anybody even just five years older than myself, I am imprinted to hold doors open and carry shopping bags and what not, which stops me from turning around and yell "Grow up, you morons!", but even if I would never DO such a thing, in this particular case I truly wish someone else would do it, or these ladies and gentlemen who mean no harm would get a late insight and stop acting like that. Maybe traditional (in Cleveland, I noticed everything what otherwise would be called "objectionable" is here called "tradition", that tells you something...), yet super UNCOOL. I realize, one can hardly put up a sign "Do not laugh at the cross-dresser in the film", and so, since I find that highly offensive, I probably would not go here to see any movie that might include such risk. Luckily "Rocky Horror Picture Show" late night performances balance that at least a little bit, so there is something for everyone, if you wanted.
