  • Disclosure: I am not a member at Title. I've just been to two free "power hour" classes - once at their grand opening and once again a few weeks ago. Here is my assessment: It is a full-body, fast paced workout. I like the variety of the power hour classes, which include boxing but also calisthenics and core stuff. Both instructors I had were very energetic, and made me feel like I was kicking ass. Punching stuff is seriously therapeutic, for those of you who haven't tried it. The time goes by quickly, and I like the overall attitude of "push yourself, but don't kill yourself" that the staff seem to have. The crowd both times I went was varied - old and young, people who looked seriously ripped and other people who looked like they were just starting to get into a workout routine. I had taken kickboxing once or twice but didn't know much about it otherwise, and I felt very welcome. So the primary problem and barrier to joining for me is the cost. Last time I went the manager tried to talk me into a membership, and told me he'd like to sign me up for $60/month. That includes unlimited classes, the machines and weights they have available, and access to any Title gym anywhere in the world. So, yea that's nice. But $60/month = $720 a year. I believe they do discounts depending on how many months you sign up for, but still that is more than twice as much as it costs me AND my husband for a full year's membership to our local rec center. Which has a pool, track, weight/machine room and classes. Yea, I like punching stuff, but that's cray cray. The second time I came back (after being encouraged to try out another FREE class, even though I already told them it was too rich for my blood) I literally had to discuss why I wasn't signing up with every member of staff. I guess that was my penance for accepting the free class offer. They were all pretty nice about it, except the last dude who may have been the owner/manager. Title is a franchise, so they have to abide by a bunch of corporate stuff - for instance they don't do "pop-in" passes. I told him that this would most likely be the best option for me, since I work out on my own and didn't see myself coming more than a few times a month. He got all condescending (great sales strategy) and asked me if I really ever push myself when I'm not in a class environment. Hey thanks, I appreciate the insult! Anyway, despite having to deal with that guy, the classes are great. If you are looking for a way to get in shape and need to have someone there to motivate you, then I suggest you give Title a try.
