| - I have heard about their pie and was looking forward to trying it at their downtown location. When plans fell through, I was bummed until I found there is one at GVR.
Mostaccioli was the first thing that caught my eye. I love mostaccioli since my teenage years when I dated an Chicago Italian. It was good but the mostaccioli pasta was a bit larger in diameter and was even elbow in some cases. I enjoyed it, but was no where near Grandma Onofrio's
Now, the purpose of the visit- the Pie! When was a small wee child in Las Vegas, there was the pizzeria located on East Charleston near Bruce named the Pizza Palace. This was so incredible, that all pies, from here on out, will be judged by this high bar.
This is place can do pies New York, Chicago, Detroit whatever. I have been here twice and I have ordered The New Yorker. Sliced mozzarella, tomato sauce, sliced house link sausage, garlic, pepperoni, ricotta. RICOTTA!!! OMG the Ricotta. So rich. you may want to ask your server to go easy on the Ricotta, but damn! Before you leave this Earth.....try the New Yorker.
The place is raucous. I took my mother here. Great pie, not sure if it is great for my 75 year old mom. She is not dowdy, she has been to 10 Rush concerts, but still, the noise level is a little below yelling level. IF you want a good pie and a great atmosphere to people watch go here. If you want a good pie, but a little more low key, this is not it.
