The interactive room was neat for kids. However the museum overall is not family- friendly. No food or drinks which I understand. But also no backpacks or strollers in the gallery. Most of the staff was rude and seemed upset that we'd bring children to MIM - from the front desk staff to the docents. But, the gentleman in the kids area was sweet, though. Throughout the museum I was stopped multiple times with my children and overall did no not feel welcome. I was stopped to be asked if I paid admission (yes, obviously) and to remind me no strollers in the galleries (yes, I know) and no backpacks (I just changed a diaper and wore my backpack out of the bathroom). I recommend going to the interactive area with kids. But I'd steer clear of the rest of the museum if you have kids.
