  • Mastro's Ocean Club is one of the high end dining places that has opened up in the last year or so at Crystals which is part of City Place. Technically speaking Mastro's is a chain, though it doesn't carry the chain vibe. The locations of the handful of Mastro's that exist live in high end cities like Scottsdale, AZ, Beverly Hills, CA and Chicago, IL. This location in Las Vegas was tagged with the words "Ocean Club" to show off the fact that not only do they have steak but a large selection of seafood too. Steak is what Mastro's have built themselves up as and if you are thinking about dining here I would suggest the steak. They are famous for firing their meats in an oven that burns hotter than 1100 degrees F. I ordered the bone in ribeye that I split with my friend. We did the usual recommendation of medium rare and in my opinion it came out perfect, though it was too bloody for her and she sent hers back to be cooked more. Of course Mastro's is a la carte and buyer beware the sides are HUGE. One side order can be spit by 3 people. We ordered the grilled brussel sprouts and they brought them out piping hot still in the skillet and put the skillet on the table. Wine selection is wonderful. Though the food is pricey the wine prices are affordable with decent bottles for only $27 though they go way up in price. Dessert was a chef's creation at this Mastro's in Vegas (executive chef Wayne Schumaker) which is the signature warm butter cake. This is a large piece of butter cake that has a sugar crust that is baked hot along with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a pile of homemade whipped cream. OMG ridiculous good but again could be shared with like, 5 people. The only major downside to Mastro's is the music. They have a live piano bar that you think would play soft, classy music like jazz or piano but instead you get very loud, karaoke type performances by an older man and woman (ages 60+) who use an iPad connected to the piano to sing modern and past day pop music such as Pink, Katy Perry, and even Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks". If Mastro's would lose the cheesy, loud, awful music they would go to 5 stars. Bring headphones and enjoy a nice dinner.
