  • I have been putting off writing this for a long time. Largely because it is my most visited and most familiar 'special occasion' restaurant. I think it's a lot easier to write about one given experience, but to aggregate dozens of different visits into one straightforward review is a little bit more challenging! Let's give it a go. First of all, when you walk in you're immersed in a very intimate atmosphere that maybe you weren't expecting in the NoDa neighborhood. This spot is great for friends catching up with each other or date night with your significant other. Seating at the bar is first come first served, while the wait times for dining room seating has improved with recent renovations/expansion to the rear of the restaurant. I highly suggest the seasonal cocktails they feature on the constantly rotating menu, their bar staff is top notch and they even age their own Burbon! For starters, if it's your first time here, no question you've got to try the award winning (Charlotte Magazine) pesto brie fries. The pesto that's served with it adds such a bold flavor that contrasts well with the mellow creaminess of the brie, it's a true delight. Make sure to check out the specials. They do a weekly special crepe, seafood dish, Mussel, soup, and veg, which they list on a board near the back of the restaurant, but your server should go over them as well. Barring any showstoppers on the special menu, I always know what I'm in the mood for: Slow roasted short rib, served with a cabernet reduction, with heirloom tomatoes and roasted shallots. If you think I copied and pasted that from the menu you'd be wrong, I've ordered this so many times it's burned in my brain! Every bite is pure perfection, I'm serious, I could just die right there with no regrets after finishing a plate of this. You may be wondering where the crepes are in this review. To be honest, I love the entree crepe dishes, but I like to save the crepe for dessert. They make an outstanding crepe suzette with a creamy sauce finished with grand mariner and topped with the most amazing ice cream. I'll say no more, words cannot do this dish any justice. At the end of the night, before you leave, pause a minute to just savor the atmosphere. Friends and family enjoying each others company, the passers-by reveling in a fun night in NoDa, and the hustle of the amazing kitchen churning out stellar food all blend together like a symphony. It's a curious experience for me every time, and I can't wait to come back.
