The doctors at camelback pediatrics are incredible. We have seen Dr. Scharff and Dr. Frakes and they were both wonderful. As a first time mother with a newborn, they were extremely encouraging, kind, and willing to answer any questions I had. At no time did I feel like any of my appointments were rushed. We settled on seeing Dr. Frakes, as she is a female and so is my child. She has never made me feel inadequate, inferior, or dumb for any decision that I have made for my daughter regarding her healthcare. She is sweet and gentle and genuinely cares about her patients and their parents. I would recommend her to anyone, any day.
CONS:
I wish that Dr. Frakes worked in another pediatric care facility. The customer service at Camelback Pediatrics is absolutely terrible. We recently just got a bill for my daughter's newborn screening because it was sent to an out-of-network lab. Now, I completely understand that not everyone's insurance is going to cover this specific lab. However, I was told by someone at the front desk that my specific insurance covers newborn preventative care. At the time of the test, I was not told which lab my daughters blood would be going to, nor was I given any sort of paperwork that told me. Being sleep deprived and all around terrified of doing something wrong as a new mother, it was really easy to not think about asking what lab they were sending it to. Especially after being reassured that my insurance does cover preventative care. When I called the offices to discuss this matter, the first person I spoke to was Rosemary. She was extremely rude. I was trying to understand why I was billed, and then why I was not told that there was a possibility that my insurance wouldn't cover the test. The entire time, she was interrupting me and speaking over me. I had to say, "excuse me" multiple times before she would stop talking and listen to what I was asking or explaining. And whenever she spoke, she was extremely patronizing and condescending to me, telling me that I should have known to ask what lab it was sent to and that she just recently had an appointment and she called beforehand to make sure that her insurance would cover everything. Next I asked to speak to someone higher up. She sent me to their billing manager, whose name I did not happen to get. She was also extremely rude. She listened for the first minute or so, but then for the rest of our conversation, she was interrupting and speaking over me. When I told her that it seemed rude to speak over someone and that was the issue I was having with Rosemary, she was silent for about 10 seconds and then replied in a stoic voice, "continue." At that point I told her that we would not be returning to Camelback Pediatrics. I said that they have amazing doctors, but their costumer service is terrible.
