I'm a little baffled by the negative reviews. I've been shopping at this store for years. It's honestly the only pet store in Madison other than Mounds that I HAVEN'T had an issue with.
The cans in the cat food section can get a touch dusty, as they do in most stores. Aside from that I've never seen the place dirty. I've seen a few sick kittens and puppies, but usually their being taken care of and very strictly guarded so that people don't disturb them.
I'm fairly certain that the cat and kitten cages have multiple connecting squares. Some for sleeping and some for the litter box. Maybe that makes each cube smaller, but it's really better than the other style of cages where litter gets every where.
Honestly I love this place. They sell high quality wet cat food for really good prices. All the workers I've interacted with are incredibly nice. The people working in the reptile and fish area are usually pretty happy to chat about the animals.
I'm pretty bummed they took away the toys to play with the kittens though. That was definitely one of the highlights of my trip there.
