  • BE VERY CAREFUL WITH FOX CAR RENTAL! Reserving Fox because it was 'less' expensive was a mistake After a long day of travel,we arrived in Phoenix, and took the shuttle to the car rental location. The line for Fox was way out the door, it took well over an hour. When we finally got to the counter, the car that they had reserved for us was not what we had requested. We had requested a compact, and they had a subcompact for us. When we said that was not what we had requested, Dawn said oh, we have a special right now, you can get a compact SUV for 30$/ day . This seemed like a good idea and 30$ seemed like a good price, so we took it. And then the fun began, Dawn brought out a small screen and all the 'paperwork' was done on it. The whole form was never visible at the same time, and what you could see was very confusing. The different fees were scattered all over the form and disorganized. Our mistake was that we were exhausted and tired of standing in line and wanted to get out of there. We were asked to initial a place that said we would not be charged more than $220. The actual firm was then printed out and folded up and handed to us and we left. We put the form in the glove compartment and went off. A couple of days later, I looked at the form and it seemed to say that we had been charged a substantial deposit. We returned the car the night before we were to fly home. The attendant in the garage told us that the final charge was $575. When we questioned that, we were told to go back up to the rental counter. My first thought was, not that line again and we almost didn't go for that reason. We went back up and waited. The guy at the counter seemed to anticipate all our questions and concerns as if he had heard them before. He told us that it was $30/day on top of what we had originally been quoted, when Dawn had never said when renting us the car. He showed us the form which had all these 3 letter groups followd by a price. There was no explanation of what they were. The $220 that we thought was a maximum was actually a maximum 'late fee' although where we initialed, it didn't say that, it said it somewhere else on the form. The $725 was actually hidden in the text of the form and not with the other costs. Eventually a manager was called and our cost was reduced to to $380, still almost twice what we believed the cost would be. If we had tried to return the car right before our flight, we would not have had time to wait and I would not be surprised if that is what they were counting on. Never again will I try to save a few bucks without being much more careful
