| - I got really excited when I read about Moko, because they have vegetarian broth and I've been trying to avoid eating meat. However, by the end of our visit, that excitement was entirely gone.
Moko is a small shop like many of the other ramen places around town. Diners tonight included a party of eight people that had arrived shortly before us, and a party of three that already had their food. A family of four also arrived right after us. "Cool," I thought, "not super busy for a Friday night." Wrong.
We placed our orders for veggie mandoo and two bowls of ramen (both custom ramens but only with egg and bamboo added, plus crispy tofu for mine, so nothing crazily time-consuming), and then proceeded to wait nearly 45 minutes for our dinner to come out. The party of four received their menus and food before us, even though they had arrived after. They appeared to be regulars because they were familiar with our server, but I wasn't thrilled about being overlooked (not sure if they were intentionally served first or not).
The ramen was okay but the mandoo and my tofu were unpleasantly oily. The egg was good but oddly was not cut in half, which made eating it a bit awkward. My miso broth was very salty. However, my boyfriend was satisfied with his tonkotsu broth. Honestly nothing exceptional, as their mission statement promises.
The food was decent, but what bothered me was the lack of customer service. Drinks were never refilled, and there was neither an update on the status of our food nor an apology for the long wait upon its arrival. I understand that a party of eight might have been unexpected, but the customer service should still have been there. If it takes too long or is too difficult for the kitchen to deal with a heavily customizable menu, perhaps management should consider narrowing down the menu to a more efficient selection. Our server also gave off the vibe of wanting to be somewhere else, which was off-putting.
Unfortunately, despite the positive reviews from other yelpers, I wasn't happy with my experience here.
