I wasn't sure what to expect coming to 1855 from other Yelp reviews and limited information about the place. My fiancee had been there in the past and so had his parents, so we went for Friday Fish Fry with my parents and his to try it.
The place was busy and filled to the brims with customers. We had planned this dinner in advance and with fish fry being a popular Friday meal, we made reservations just in case. The fish was good and wasn't the greasy beer battered fish you find at a lot of places. It was beer battered but really crispy. Their fish fry comes with red potatoes (not the typical french fries) served over a piece of toasted bread and a choice of cole slaw or salad.
They also had a musician playing live music, which was a nice touch. Overall, I tend to like old rustic buildings turned into restaurants. You do get that feel in 1855.
The fish was good but I'd like to go back to try something else on the menu as it is hard to mess up a fish fry. I will say prices looked a little higher for most menu items, so just keep that in mind if looking to dine here. Also, to comment on service we had no problems there at all. Our waitress was very friendly, came back many times to ask how everything was and refill drinks, and overall did a good job on a busy night.
