| - Any one who knows me, knows that I have a thing for useless knick-knacks and paper products. I like stationary, journals, quaint, little note takers...that sort of thing.
I tend to browse little shops like Ivory Parade from time to time, and have to say the proximity of this store to my home is a definite plus. And while I enjoy going through the stacks of unique cards and ornamental picture savers, Ivory Parade is not my all time favourite. Maybe I've seen one too many novelty stores like this, and I'm getting tired of them, but it seems that Ivory Parade carries all of the exact things that I can find at any other specialty gift shop.
I wouldn't encourage anyone to go out of their way to shop here, but that is not to say that Ivory Parade does not have some cute stuff. It just has cute stuff that you can pretty much get at any other store like it, and the prices are not in any way encourageable.
I did happen to see a few neat things that I think would make great gift ideas if you happen to go into Ivory Parade. These include the plant in a box for 18.99 and a number of funky picture frames and mugs. There was a 20% off sale on purses but that was the only thing I noticed that was on sale in Ivory Parade. The sales people make sure to say hi, and then pretty much leave you to browse alone, which is great, considering the store is small enough that they can keep an eye on you without hovering.
I'd recommend Ivory Parade to anyone, who is in the College/Crawford area, and is willing to spend a little extra for a birthday card. Yes, it beats Carlton Cards or a Hallmark store by far, just keep in mind that it isn't the best of the best.
