I took my 7 year old daughter to see Mary Poppins here last night and it was wonderful! We were delighted to be seated right in the front row and it was a great experience. If you are a bit shy, you may find being right in the front row a bit close, as you are essentially even with and right on the edge of the stage. For us, it was perfect. We were so close to the performers and it was a wonderful way to experience the production.
The performances were stellar and the sets were wonderful as well. What a fantastic cast! Breanne Dietrech as Mary Poppins was pitch perfect and captured Mary's magic perfectly and was my daughter's favourite but I must say that I felt that everyone in the cast captured their character and shared the magic of the story. I also LOVED the costumes and the sets and how the space was used.
As for the location, I loved the intimacy of the small theatre and since we are delighted with front row performances, our seating was perfect. There is a small snack bar to grab something quick during the intermission. The restrooms were clean and bright. If you are concerned about the "gender neutral" aspect, you can simply stay in the restroom with your child, which I usually do anyway.
The only challenge I see is that the space is up a set of stairs, which I made my way up with a knee brace, but clearly the space is not wheelchair accessible. I understand it in terms of the age of the space but certainly understand those who will be disappointed by this.
We will definitely be back to see more productions here!
