  • I generally dread getting my hair cut and will always wait until my split ends have split ends to actually give in and get it done. Since it's always a last minute decision, I have never really settled on a salon and I would go anywhere that seemed okay. Tired of boring haircuts with apathetic hairdressers (who always insist on pointing out the mistakes my previous hairdresser made), I decided I was going to actually look for a good salon. After lurking Yelp for salon reviews, I booked an appointment at Civello Rosedale with Nelson, a junior stylist. Normally, I find the atmosphere of most salons to be really stuffy and sterile, but it was quite the opposite. The salon looks almost like a restaurant from the outside and the interior has a really warm, home-y feel. There are also tiles on the wall with (what looked like) Byzantine art painted on them. Very pretty and very different. When I arrived, the receptionist kindly took me upstairs, hung up my coat for me and gave me a black robe to put over my clothes. He offered me something to drink and then made sure I didn't have any questions before he left me to change. They take customer service seriously and being someone who was once a phone monkey and a retail zombie, I was pretty impressed. I'm used to salons where jaded receptionists don't even make eye contact with me while they extend long, painted finger nails to where I'm supposed to sit. Nelson was awesome. He offered me something to drink again and then we discussed what I wanted from the haircut. Usually when I do this, the hairdresser will nod a lot and then just go into the cut, leaving me with the same cut and problems as before. Unlike those other hairdressers, Nelson explained which parts he'd be layering and where he'd need to take off a bit more length to meet my needs. After offering me a neck rub and washing my hair, he ended up giving me the best haircut I've had in years. My cut was around $55 and, like other people have said, they give you a $25 gift card for future visits.
