| - I read Cibo opened in 2009 so they must have been a little ahead of their time when they opened this quaint little italian pizza and sandwich restaurant in downtown Phoenix area. This seems to be the trend in 2010+, find an old house or business and convert into a comfortable, home-style, eating experience. The house concept was relaxing, in a old neighborhood of brick homes and full-grown shade trees and at the same time, seeing the downtown Phoenix landscape on the near horizon.
The Drinks: n/a
Didn't feel like any drinks on this visit although the menu selection looked decent.
The Food: ****
We started with the Pear Salad, organic spinach, pear, pecorino cheese, honey and toasted almonds. Very refreshing, and probably could have stopped here.
The bread basket was a little weak. Didn't feel bad not getting seconds, where normally I would.
I had the Calzone. Much bigger than I expected. Good pizza dough/crust, smooth and not too spicy sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, prosciutto and salami. I don't recall any other ingredients in the calzone like onions, bell peppers or mushrooms. More of a creamy texture like folding up a slice of pizza and eating it. Very good.
Kat had the bolognaise. Again, good flavor in the meat sauce, homemade noodles and healthy portion.
The Dessert: *****
Mostly crepe menu items like Nutella and berries or moscapone and lemon zest with powered sugar. Nice end to a good meal.
The Service: **
Our waitress was nice but the rest of the staff seemed a little "tired" and unexcited. We intentionally left our water bottle on the edge of the table to see if they would offer to refill. No such luck. Super bowl week is just starting so they better step up their game.
