  • I attended the grand opening of The Dessert Kitchen downtown this past weekend. The place was crowded as expected since it was their grand opening. We waited in line for about 30 minutes before we were seated. They have an extensive menu of creative desserts and beverages - one of which I could not resist! The Polar Bear Hong Kong Style Milk Tea! It comes with a super cute marshmallow polar bear that floats and jiggles on top of your tea. It's so cute I almost couldn't "bear" myself to drink it! This small cup of tea was $5.99 It's a tad pricey for the amount of tea you actually get but how can you resist? It's so cute!! We also ordered their award winning signature dessert "Purple in Love" ($8.99). It was grape flavoured shaved ice with sweet juicy red grapes Mochi balls and Mochi ball ice cream (the shaved ice tasted like grape flavoured freezie), their Green Tea Eggettes ($8.99) with homemade green tea ice cream (it tasted exactly like green tea, a little on the bitter side), and their Mango Slush ($5.49), it was thick and rich, almost like a purée). All of their desserts looked so pretty it was a challenge finalizing my menu order! I wanted to try everything! As for the decor, we sat upstairs and it was a bit stuffy and bare. I thought they could have used some artwork or photos of their desserts/drinks on the walls for a splash of colour however the presentation of their desserts and drinks made up for it (who needs to look at the walls when you have cute little polar bears staring at you!) Overall this is a cute dessert boutique that is definitely "meetup" and "date" approved. Service was also quick and friendly and most importantly, food was yummy!
