  • Since the place opened up, it's been almost impossibly to find space to park and wait times for a table have been measured in hours. So, when the NoWait app told us that there is No Wait - Come on in... we immediately hopped into our car and took the 20 minute drive to Castle Shannon. When we got there, there were no spaces to park.. oh! Wait! A car was pulling out. YAY!!! Once parked, I checked NoWait and it showed 60-75 minutes of wait time. Wow!!! Anyway, we were here, so we decided to walk in and see what's what. Once we entered, to our right was the dining room with lots of tables --- all full! the hostess told us that it would be at least 45 minutes before we could be seated, but she also said that there might be some room upstairs. (!) Whirling around, we saw that the other side of the space was basically a bar with two walls full of wines and boors in refrigerators. But, there was also a staircase. So, up we went. The upstairs was also busy, but there was one table for two available, which we immediately pounced on. The space upstairs is about half the size of the downstairs, but there is still room for a bar, tables, rest rooms, and an outdoor patio. Even though this was February, it was a mild evening and one of the two garage doors was completely open. We could see a fire pit with a roaring fire in it and several small tables and chairs out there. As the evening wore on, we saw more and more people sit outside and eat out there. Apparently, as long as you order at the bar, and take your food and drink out there yourself, they are fine with it. However, there is no service out there. The waiter arrived quickly at our table and gave us menus, including their beer list. My wife was interested in a wheat beer so she asked for his recommendation. They had nothing that was exactly in her style, but he suggested a tasting of one of their brews ($2) which she tried. The menu itself is of pretty basic bar food: Pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and the like. We ended up ordering one of their chicken sandwiches and a pizza. They claim that they have a special cooking technique for their chicken so it requires some more time, and that must have been the case as we waited a long time for our food to arrive. In the meantime, my wife tried her beer and it was definitely not to her liking. She explained the situation to the waiter, who cheerfully suggested another beer tasting (another $2). She agreed to his second suggestion. One good thing was that they were flexible with their pizza. We wanted to modify some of the topping offered, and they were very agreeable to it. When the food finally arrived, we were somewhat let down. The chicken sandwich was VERY crunchy .. almost to the point of being brick hard! The pizza was done very well. The crust was not greasy at all. However, it was also pretty flavorless! The cole slaw that came with the sandwich had very large chunks of cabbage and almost no sauce, so it was not very good. And, finally, the second beer tasting went far away in the wrong direction from what was wanted. With the room being so crowded, I was expecting loudness, especially as the ceiling does not feature any kind of sound-absorbing materials. However, with the garage door being open, and near us, I was hoping it would not be too loud. Unfortunately it did not really help and we could barely hear each other when talking in a loud voice. It is not that pleasant to be shouting at each other and straining your voice to have dinner! Will we come back? Probably not. We've tried some of the other microbreweries around and their food was better; the beers were better; and the surroundings were more conducive to a pleasant meal.
