| - Please beware! Innova Living is not a company you want to rent from. I picked up my key to the apartment in the beginning of September. After an exhausting day driving and moving in, my wife laid down to take a nap while I unpacked. Within minutes of laying down she noticed that it was infested with BED BUGS! My wife was bitten and we immediately left the apartment and attempted to contact management. We were told to go to a nearby hotel and they would bring in an exterminator. According to management, the extermintator found a few adult bugs and treated and that we could go back immediately and were instructed to wash the sheets. Finding any bedbugs is an issue. Here is what is recommended by bedbugs.org
" If any signs are found during the thorough inspection described above, then be sure to do the following:
Clean curtains, clothing, pillows, drapes and all bed linens in hot water
Dry the above items on the hottest dryer setting possible
For items that cannot be washed, such as shoes, put them in the dryer and set it to the hottest setting possible
Scrub the mattress with a stiff-bristled brush
Vacuum the bedroom and mattress. Remember to remove the vacuum bag immediately after use, place it into a plastic bag, dispose of the plastic bag outside in a covered garbage bin.
Because they can live as long as a year without feeding, be sure to wrap both your box spring and mattress in a tight, zipper covering. This covering will keep bugs from escaping and feeding, which will eventually kill them.
Minimize household clutter
Glue wallpaper so that it is flat against the wall; this eliminates a common hiding place for bugs.
Close any crevices around the home and fix any cracks in plaster to eliminate additional hiding places.
Dispose of any infected mattresses and/or box springs. Be sure to rid the home of pests so that the new mattress and bedding will not be infested."
I dont know how they can claim to get rid of bedbugs without addressing the mattress when the females lay 10-12 eggs a day and can live without feeding for up to a year. None of the recommendation above were done other than a "treatment."
After relaying this to Irina, the property manager, her response was that everything was treated and it was fine and "what do you want me to do." She scoffed at our concerns and did not sense the urgency in dealing with this matter. We were coming in from another city, starting a 10 week education program on Tuesday, and had no where to live. Finding a furnished short term rental is no easy task, much less finding this on a holiday weekend. To add insult to the situation, management refused to give us contact information the first three days stating that we can only leave a message to the concierge and that she would contact us. Stranded, paying for a hotel all of these nights after paying upfront for the apartment for our entire stay, we expected access to the management to work out a solution.
Each call was met with confrontation and lacking empathy or effort to resolve the issue.
I regret ever choosing this as our temporary home during our stay in Cleveland.
