| - Wow! This is some serious movie theater business! They are not messing around with their movie-going fanciness. I've never been in such an upscale movie theater...made me forget that I'm not rich for a minute or two. But don't worry, once I saw the ritzy Scottsdale crowd swarming the joint I quickly remembered my place.
Oh, and when I say swarming, I do mean it rather literally. The place is not hurting for business so I don't want to hear any wealthy Scottsdale peeps complaining about the economy. If you can afford to come here on a regular basis then I'm pretty sure you're doing okay. So I should preface this entire review with the fact that I received free iPic tickets during the Elite Tanzy event (which was awesome by the way). They spoiled us with premium plus seats which include valet, popcorn, a reclining seat, a blanket and pillow during the show, and a server who takes your order from your seat. Premium plus tickets go for $25 a pop which is clearly not cheap, so that's something to think about if you're considering a movie here. You also need to consider the fact that it seems to pretty busy. We tried to come to a movie on three different occasions before we were finally able to book seats over the phone four days in advance. So be prepared to call ahead or book online beforehand. This is not the type of movie theater where you can just show up and head in.
The movie theater itself is really impressive. They have a full menu, a full bar, and some seriously classy digs. The place is clean, stylish, and not lacking any expense. It really made for a special night out and I would highly recommend it for a date night.
Unfortunately, this is where I have to share a little bad news. Our service was absolutely horrible. I'm talking waited-at-least-thirty-minutes-just-to-get-a-glass-of-water bad. It was NOT good and those of you who read my reviews know that I am not one to shy away from a low rating. However, in this situation, I really believe that it was probably more like a freak accident instead of a regular occurrence. I seriously doubt iPic is going to allow poor service on a regular basis. Especially not for the upscale types that they're serving. So I'm going with my gut that it was just a fluke and giving them four stars anyway. Although I do want to expand on the kind of service we received here the other night...
We arrived early and were quickly greeted by our friendly server. He gave us the iPic spiel (since we were first timers) and took our order (two beers, two waters, and an order of mozzarella sticks). This was all about 10 minutes before previews began. Our mozzarella sticks came out quickly (so the kitchen must be doing something right), but we waited through all of the previews and at least ten minutes of the movie before we even had our waters. That was AFTER watching everyone around us get their drinks and asking a second time for our waters. Oh and did I mention that they were out of the beer I ordered? Kind of disappointing. They also delivered popcorn to everyone around me (including my husband) and I eventually had to ask for mine. When we did finally receive our drinks, the mozzarella sticks were cold so we didn't get to enjoy them like we'd hoped.
After that the rest of the experience was pretty nice. Our movie was hilarious and the chairs were ridiculously comfortable. I didn't really like that the server came to close our bill an hour before the show was over though. Seemed awfully early...what if we wanted to order something else? I also felt it was rather distracting and wasn't able to enjoy the movie quite as much. If I were to come back to iPic, I would probably choose the more affordable seats without the server. It just wasn't worth the hassle or frustration.
I do want to end this review on a positive note because, like I said, the place is really something to see. I would have to agree with Nydia A's review that described the place as more of a lounge than a movie theater. I promise you won't be disappointed with the overall atmosphere and hopefully your server will be better than mine. Enjoy!
