  • I was referred to this guy by another dentist. He has over 30 years experience. The prices were a bit expensive, and I had spent a lot of money on a comprehensive exam. ($250) Most places will do an exam for a lot less or for free if you have them do the work. I figured you get what you pay for, so went along. The staff is friendly, office is pleasant, and not many other customers clogging the place up. Went in for some fillings. again the prices were way high. Dr. avena had to stick me with the needle about 4 times to properly numb the tooth. Even then he still did not get it done right. I found myself thinking how or why is this going so wrong when the guy has over 30 years experience. I am used to needles, and lots of dental work, but this guy had me so nervous that I was shaking every time he had to try the needle again. another thing that kind of creeped me out a bit was he wanted to slather my lips up with petroleum jelly. I got the work done and told myself I am not coming here again. I had also previously spent lots of money with him on ordering a gold crown for a dental implant, which was a bit pricey. That involved $475 for a surgical guide for the implantologist to acurately place the implant. The implant and crown went alright, but the fillings on other tooth was where I got to see this guy actually do some work, and it was definitely not up to par with the way high prices. Do youre self a favor and shop around. Unless you have money to burn. Amother funny fact is he has the cover of a magazine posted in lobby claiming he was 1997 dentist of the year. ( voted by his peers.) But when you do a bit of research on the magazine, it is realy only a publication that dentists subscribe to as members. So paying member dentists can maybe get articles about how great they are. Non paying dentists are excluded. Kind of a biased publication, that rewards paying members. Not a credible source of information on who is a great dentist. The publication is only printed once per year. Not a real magazine.
