Beware of gimmick pricing!
We stopped in looking for a dining room table set. After finding the one we liked, we decided to do an internet search while in the store. We found the exact set online for $60 less, no tax (shipping from out of state) and free shipping. We asked the salesperson if they could get close on the price. "No problem!" she said as she knocked the $60 off without even consulting a manager. (so, yes, you can get the "sale" price discounted even more).
I understand it is "illegal" to not charge sales tax when purchasing goods "in state", but there isn't anything stopping a company from further discounting to offset the difference. Heck, offer a free protection plan. They wouldn't even throw in free delivery (a $49 "value") which I received from their online competitor.
In this tech savvy age, a brick & mortar location must be able to compete on the fly. Not every transaction is going to be maximum profit. Maybe we caught them on a bad night? They lost a sizable sale due to someone's unwillingness to "close the deal". Maybe next time, you will look at your actual margins before shutting down negotiations.
