  • The Mayo Clinic is truly an answer to prayers for our family, we are blessed enough to have Scott accepted as a patient in the Heart Transplant Program; the words to express my gratitude for this sufficiently elude me. It has been, and will continue to be a long journey until we receive his new heart, but the Heart Transplant Team, and everyone we work with have made every step easier. When we have outpatient appointments, the Specialty Center is where Transplant patients are seen. There's a golf cart trolley which moves people about, and there are wheelchairs with porters (who don't accept tips) who also will help those who need it get from car park into building. Before your appointment, you receive a schedule for the day via email, and first check in at Registration. The only annoying part is, you have to sign in for every appointment - once we had six - and wait in line each time. The Hospital is beautiful, the lobby looks more like a fancy hotel. Again, from the Information Desk volunteers to every Dr., nurse, tech, therapist, dietary, and ancillary staff, we have received excellent care. When he stays in Hospital, I stay with him, and they ensure both of us are as comfortable as we can be. Even the cafe food is quite good, and healthy. The grounds are expertly landscaped, and there are mini trails to walk, and a variety of artwork installations inside and outside. Finally, I'd encourage anyone with health concerns to seek the expertise at the Mayo Clinic. There's an International Patient Registration area, and we have met patients and families from all corners of the globe. As a caregiver, I'm appreciative of the variety of classes and support groups offered on site. There's also a Marriott hotel on the campus, many families stay there. The transplant program has casitas for post op recovery. So, while nobody wants a catastrophic health condition, it is comforting to know that we have the best care available right in our backyard.
