| - I have trust issues with auto repair shops. I know cars, I know when someone is taking me for a ride, and have experienced it many times. I do a lot of work myself for that reason. So it takes me a while to search sites like this, and take the plunge to have my car looked at. Well combine that with owning two high mile vehicles and that can be a stressful combination!
My van has 178k on it. After researching my symptoms on line, I had a good idea what I needed, and it was NOT something I wanted to do. I took the van to Curt's. Jeff patiently listened to all my description, and my confident conclusions of what I needed, without being annoyed (or at least without showing it.) I like that after the inspection, he took me under the vehicle to show the problem (I was right) and some other problems (I wasn't surprised.)
He made it clear that my main problem was severe and needed attention right away while other issues could wait. Ethan worked up estimates on everything they found wrong and emailed them to me later, instead of presenting them on that visit to pressure me for more work. (even an estimate on installing a license plate light!, thanks Ethan, but I'll handle that one.) Now some might see this as gouging and fear mongering, but I didn't get that impression at all. They fixed what I needed, it was a fair price (about half what others online paid the stealer), and left me with info that I can use to plan the next repair I give to them, as well as repairs I can perform myself.
I am happy I found a place I can trust. In fact, the next day I brought my car with 218k on it in for an oil change and an inspection. I was hearing a noise, and I told him I feared CV joints. This time I was wrong. The sound I heard was just a little looseness in sway bar links, and he recommended leaving it alone. He probably could have convinced me I needed new CV joints or axle shafts, for several hundred dollars. Nope. They're clearly interested in longer term relationships than that day's repair. They have a new long term relationship in me.
