| - "Eh." That's about all the excitement I can muster for this Public Market.
It's the biggest farmers market around, yes (that I'm aware of); however the selection of produce gets a bit redundant across the many vendors. And, the prices!! My goodness! The prices didn't make me want to return; they made me want to run away...fast! I'm all for supporting the local scene, but the sentiment has to be mutual. I got the feeling that I was looked at more as a "mark" than a "customer." I honestly get more fuzzy feelings shopping at Safeway.
I did buy some things though...a lot of things really. The biggest score was some canned tuna I got from the guy who actually fished for it. It was gourmet tuna, and it was delicious! And it was cool talking to the guy who looked after his product across the whole spectrum of production: fishing, selection, cooking & recipe, choosing a cannery, label design, distribution, etc. Cool stuff!
The rest was okay: the bread, the herb butter, the lettuce, the bee pollen, the eggplant lasagna, the wine, the chocolate, the nuts, etc. It was all good...but overpriced. And my business didn't really seemed to be very appreciated. "Just hand me your money and move along," was the vibe I was picking up. So, no matter how good the product actually was, the experience just left a bad taste in my mouth.
The Ahwatukee Farmer's Market is smaller, but the people there are FAR nicer; so I will go to there instead.
