  • My fiancee and I have been going to Platos Closet and Buffalo Exchange for years to sell our older clothes. Moving forward, we will no longer be going to ANY Platos Closet locations, solely based off of the AWFUL experience we have repeatedly had at this one. Upon arriving with three large bags of clothes, we entered the store at 12:03pm (this was a Sunday and they opened at 12:00p). There was already a line, and we were told to fill out the tag with our information. As soon as we finished filling out the tag, we were informed that they had NO CASH to give us for our clothes and store credit would have to be issued. They then told us that we could come back tomorrow to redeem the credit for the cash because of the circumstances. Additionally, because they were "so backed up" at 12:03, we left our items there for two hours to run additional errands. What kind of business opens on a SUNDAY with NO CASH in the register?? In addition, we now have to take time out of our schedules (and gas out of our car) to come back today! The worst part was that the clothing we were hoping to sell to them was all clean, barely worn clothes that were great brands! Abercrombie and Fitch, Banana Republic, PacSun, etc. We both worked in retail (apparel specifically) so we have an abundance of barely worn, but very nice clothing. We were told that they only took 13 items because our clothes were badly worn and stained. I could not find a single stain on any item we had! My fiancee and I are both convinced that they don't like higher end brands because the majority of what is in their store is just cheap clothing from lower end stores. Either that, or they just didn't have the need or the room in their store and didn't want to tell us. Aside from all of this, the staff is extremely unhelpful and often come across like they have NO IDEA what they are doing or what is going on. The Assistant Manager Gladys (spelling?) ensured us that money would be given upon going back the next day, but I will believe it once it actually happens. Worst location ever. We left and went right to Buffalo Exchange in Tempe where we were politely greeted, and didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes while they sorted through our things. We were also offered more money for less items at Buffalo Exchange than at Platos Closet. Word to the wise and anyone else, skip this crappy location and chain and go to Buffalo Exchange. You will receive more money, and less of a headache!
