| - We wanted to try this place for over a year. Finally, we did.
Atmosphere: Very cool/different setting. I felt like I was almost eating dinner at Hogwarts (lol) or on a fancy train because of the setting. Very small, intimate dining room and nice setting.
Food: The bread basket was amazing as they provided pretzel bread and a few other untraditional bread choices. Man, the pretzel bread/roll was amazing. Caesar salad, scallops, pork belly, and lobster Mac n cheese appetizers were tasty (8.5 out of 10). The filet mignon was tasty once it was refired (will discuss below). The lobster bisque was not as good as most I've had (7 out of 10). Everyone enjoyed their food and I was pleasantly full. The desserts were delicious and we sampled a few.
Service:
The waiter we had was awful. The waiter refused to bring my wife her diet soda, me some lemons for my club soda, forgot to bring a bottle of wine to the table as requested, and failed to do the above numerous times. Both of the steaks that were ordered were cooked two levels beyond what the requested and had to be re-ordered. With a dining room so intimate, there is no reason why the waitstaff could not be extremely attentive to the needs of the tables. The waiter that we had was completely ill-equipped and did not deserve to work there. After requesting the manager and voicing all of our issues, we were given some free desserts. We were still very upset about the service we got as the desserts did not nearly make up for the terrible waiter.
The Bill:
This place seems to charge more than they should for what they are. It also seemed like they were trying to be a couple notches above the level of class that they were as far as plating of the food and quality of service was considered. The prices were way too high for what we received. We had four people in our party, ordered a bottle of sparkling water, a bottle of cheaper wine, two martinis, one soda, five or six appetizers, and three entrées. With a 10% tip, the bill came out to $380.
Thankfully, we were in great company and had a blast talking and joking with our friends. We will not be returning to the Barrymore.
