| - Chinese and Mexican. Two of my favorites cuisines and we were starving so we thought there was no way China Pablano can mess this up. In addition, the burger place next door, Holsteins, is DELICIOUS and we've eaten there a few times so we thought we'd give this place a try.
The two of us wanted to sit next to each other, but the host would not let us. Apparently, all tables with adjacent seats were reserved. This place was only 30% full. When sat down, we sat next to each other anyway so a different host came and apologized, and pushed together another table for us so that we are more comfortable. Meh, whatever.
We ordered When Pigs Fly, Barbacoa de Res, Don't Be Jealous, and a quesadilla off their "specials" menu. Also, a $6 bottle of a small non-refillable coke. Rip-off. When we got our food, they came one at a time so it was more like eating a bunch of appetizers. Which didn't bother me too much, but it bothered my boyfriend that he couldn't try a bite of each at a time, but instead was forced to finish one plate at a time. We had to send back Don't Be Jealous, a hot and sour soup. It had a thick layer of sesame oil and simply put, it just tasted like crap. They took it off the check so props for that. The rest of the food was just meh. The Barbacoa de Res was $5.50 for ONE taco. Literally. It came wrapped with ONE corn tortilla so of course, as soon as I picked it up, it split in half and just fell all over the place. I've had better $1 street tacos. The When Pigs Fly was a microwaved dumpling. I can tell because I'm Asian. How disappointing. The filling was just bland sauce. The quesadilla was the best out of the 4 dishes and even that I could have made a better one at home, and it was 4 bites for $12. Let me just say that we don't mind paying stupid amounts of $$ for small plates, as long as they taste good.
Wow. We were so upset that we didn't just go to Holsteins instead. Bad even for a strip restaurant. As a local, I hope this review will help others avoid this tourist trap restaurant.
