| - LaLaLaLaLove Whole Foods!
The displays of fresh produce are absolutely scrumptious, as are the seductive tiers of baked goods; and when there are free samples, it makes strolling the aisles quite rewarding. Even when there are no samples set out, there are signs everywhere encouraging you to ask for some. And the staff are always helpful, above and beyond expectations.
As with any shopping excursion, a bit of homework pays off. Many of the sales are worth noting, and even some of the regular prices are quite competitive. For example, as of this writing, the cost of regular bananas at 79 cents a pound is equal to or better than Metro, Loblaws or Sobey's, although admittedly not as good as some green grocers. Last time I was there, sales included 2 containers of Campari tomatoes for $4, and Eden Organic beans, 2 tins for $4. And if you've impulsively bought some Gelato Fresco Devil's Chocolate - one of the very few places in downtown Toronto that carries that flavour - you can purchase a sleek insulated bag to carry your frozen treat home.
One rainy afternoon I was accompanied by a 3-year-old and by the time we'd sampled some cheese, examined different exotic fruits, got distracted by boxes of cookies and juice and taste-tested a power smoothie, we'd had a lot of fun and found some new things to bring home. Pretty good, I'd say.
Monday to Saturday, spend over $25 and get 90 minutes of free parking; Sundays I believe it's longer.
