| - I went here on on 3/13/10. Based on the 2 reviews prior to mine, I decided to go to Maya.
I've had a lot of bad haircuts and experiences and I was never truly happy with the finished result after each cut so I was skeptical about this place. However, even though it was raining, when I showed up, there were a couple of people there already and soon afterwards, several showed up after me. Luckily I made an appt. ahead of time (which I followed the suggestion of a reviewer) so I was able to get my hair cut asap.
I didn't catch the girl's name, although I did request for Sandy per advice from here, I doubt it was her cause she looked rather young to be the owner of this salon? Anyways, she was fantastic, whoever she was. Really sweet and friendly. She was pro by using a tool belt to hold all of her things so she was able to transition seamlessly in each step of the hair cut .
My angles, bangs and layers have never looked so perfect! I'm so happy with the result! My bangs were a bit long after she was done and I kindly requested them to be cut a bit shorter and she happily obliged and trimmed them.
-25 dollars to get your hair cut (wash, cut, & dry)
-make an appt several days ahead
-they have an array of hairstyle books and probably THE best selection of books given the uniqueness to them (shows the style from front, back and side...not the common front overview in most traditional salon books) so you're able to see and piece together styles from each picture on how you want your hair to look.
-a mix of Korean and Japanese stylists
-cool and chic environment even though it's a small salon
The only con I would give about my experience is lack of scalp massage while washing my hair. The other places I went to, granted all sucked, managed to somewhat redeem themselves by giving scalp massages but it's not a deal breaker here.
Now, it's my excuse to drive 8 hours to Toronto =P
