| - The JCC's slogan is "The JCC is for Everyone" and I believe it every time I visit.
I started going to the JCC after graduate school, I wanted a gym that had amenities, that wouldn't break the bank and wasn't a complete meat market. CenterFit at JCC has lots of space, updated equipment and a wide range of clientele. I love that I can work out in a space with people from my neighborhood and that there is no judgement - regardless of age, fitness level or race. Truly the JCC lives up to the slogan "The JCC is for Everyone".
A few tips for the JCC gym:
- The gym opens at 5:30 am and there is a line waiting for the doors to open. But even with a crowd there is plenty of equipment. This is also a great time to swim.
- As a member, take part in the Centerfit activities and contests. I have earned/won free training sessions, massages and locker room upgrades.
- As a member you can take advantage of the JCC's outdoor facility in Monroeville during the summer. The outdoor kids pool and large pool are great for hot days.
- The JCC gym has limited hours during Jewish holidays (which makes sense). And the JCC closes early (6 pm) on Friday's. Just be sure to watch for schedule updates and changes.
As for the rest of the JCC: the pre-school is top notch. The Pre-School is run by fantastic, committed educators that are invested in your children and their development. This isn't a "daycare", its truly a school.
The other activities (art, music, cultural events, etc...) are also great fun. The JCC truly embraces Squirrel Hill and all of our neighbors and their heritages.
I can't recommend the JCC enough.
