  • The idea of the place is awesome. Healthy fresh food with plenty of options for vegetarians. I can say a few good things about Blue Lemon. The restaurant was clean. The food was plated well. The plates you see on the website are exactly as beautiful as what they serve. The staff was friendly. My wife and I ordered beers, a hummus appetizer, and then each a sandwich with sweet potato fries. The hummus board came out promptly with our drinks. But less than a minute later, out came our fries. I never thought I'd complain about food being served too quickly, but after just a couple more minutes, out came our sandwiches. If the food had tasted great, I wouldn't be complaining, but now I'm wondering: can gourmet flavour really be done that quickly? There's also the flow of dinner. I was expecting the usual concept of appetizers followed by a meal. Instead it felt more like stopping in for fast food. This is purely about mis-matched expectations. Next time, I'll order a coke instead of a beer. So here's the reason for the low rating: nothing tasted bad; nearly everything tasted bland. The chipotle pineapple bbq sandwich was particularly disappointing. The beef did have a sauce; perhaps simple syrup thickened with corn starch. There was certainly no trace of peppers, smoked or otherwise. Pineapple was curiously missing, along with any other flavour besides basic sweetness. The rest of the sandwich couldn't make up for the lack of chipotle, pineapple, and bbq. The grilled balsamic chicken panini was okay. According to the menu description, I should have been tasting a balsamic glaze, red onions, garlic, and a lemon pesto aioli. The "aioli" turned out to be a thin bit of mayonnaise, without even green food colouring to make up for the lack of pesto. The chicken was seasoned nicely, but somewhat dry, and I'm not sure what happened to the balsamic glaze. The fries weren't hot or crisp enough to have been fresh out of either a fryer or oven. The sauce they came with was okay though. The hummus... it wasn't bad, just seemed to be missing something. I've had better from the various greek and turkish places around town.
