  • I'm posting middle of the fence here for a couple reasons. I've used alta vista twice now for boarding and the first time for shots, etc prior to boarding. I read the reviews that many had posted before choosing them and was put to ease by the staff I called when trying to make my decision. My dogs first visit seemed to go okay, they managed to lose both of my dogs beds (a kennel pad and a pillow), after a few calls they were able to locate mine which was a minor concern to me as they should have been with my dogs. I had also requested pictures which are a free perk and a huge bonus, but received none and the staff apologized about that upon me picking them up. Over all my dogs came home healthy, and happy, no problems. Being that I was pleased with the first visit I had my dogs stay there again, just before Christmas. This time I took the kennel pad and a pillow that I labeled with my dogs names to avoid the last snafu and treats also in a bag and noted that on my boarding paperwork. I got a picture this time so that made me happy. However, when I picked my dogs up, and the staff brought out the bag to me, one kennel pad was still in the bag and the treats laying inside it (with not a single one missing) which makes me think it was never even given to my dog. The pillow was wet from being in the laundry, but that means my dogs had nothing but a cold, hard, kennel floor. While waiting for my dogs to come out, I noticed a sign offering a $10 off incentive for a positive "Yelp" review if you printed off your positive post. (Good care and service brings repeat customers and will bring in positive 'yelp' reviews... you don't need to pay for them, and I'll be honest it raised my level of concern and is one of the contributing factors of me looking for a new place to board my dogs). On the ride home the smell of urine was almost unbearable. I assume they washed the pillow which was nice, but one side of my dog smelled so strongly of urine it made us gag. My dogs ran in the house and straight toward the water bowl and drank probably a quarter of a gallon of water between them. I know they stress out a little but I'm surprised they ate food (as some was missing from what I sent) and didn't drink water. After finishing my own review, and all of my concerns coming back to me, I dropped my review from a 3 to a 2. I certainly wouldn't recommend Alta Vista at this stage in my experience, but if you do decide to use them, just be diligent. And really... Paying for a positive Yelp review is concerning for those of us who would have given you one you earned.
